Over 100 Calgary police and bylaw enforcement officers focused their efforts on the city’s downtown on Wednesday as part of a targeted crackdown to boost safety.
The one-day initiative, called Operation Order, redeployed officers from other areas to increase presence in priority downtown zones. The goal was to “enhance public safety in priority areas downtown through strategic patrols, focused enforcement, community outreach and referrals to support services,” according to a city news release.
Throughout the day, police, community safety officers, and transit peace officers patrolled key locations, enforcing bylaws and criminal laws related to drug use, possession, trafficking, and violence. They also aimed to connect individuals with support services.
