Actress Aimee Lou Wood revealed that she struggled with body dysmorphia while filming bikini scenes as Chelsea in the third season of the HBO series The White Lotus. The 31-year-old opened up about her experience in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
“I shook myself out of it by thinking, ‘It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.’”
Wood explained that she drew confidence from her character’s optimistic and spiritual personality, which helped her overcome insecurities about her appearance.
“The line between me and her started to blur,”
she shared, describing how embodying Chelsea made her feel more self-assured. The actress also reflected on the sudden fame brought by the show’s success, saying she was often traveling to Los Angeles for work and publicity.
However, Wood noted that the LA lifestyle was not as glamorous as it might seem.
“I find LA emotionally bulimic, and I say that as an ex-bulimic. It is this super-sized adventure where everyone’s talking about you all the time and you have to talk about yourself all the time.”
Aimee Lou Wood shared how portraying Chelsea in The White Lotus helped her confront body dysmorphia, while also reflecting on the pressures of fame and the superficiality of Hollywood culture.
