A multi-million dollar plan to install water and wastewater pipes beneath Highway 403 near the Oak Park Road interchange has been endorsed by Brantford councillors. Mayor Kevin Davis described the project as “critically important” for the city's economic future.
The land targeted for this project lies just north of Highway 403 and includes a former gravel pit. According to Mayor Davis, it is among the few sites in southern Ontario primed for industrial use once the necessary infrastructure is in place.
“It’s the kind of land that 20 years ago you would see an auto assembly plant on it,” said Davis during the November 4 committee-of-the-whole meeting. “It’s that large, it’s that significant to both the future of our community and southern Ontario.”
Davis emphasized that the area could attract significant industrial development if trade relations with the United States improve. He noted,
“We’d be a prime candidate for that investment.”
The project aims to position Brantford as a key player in regional economic growth by upgrading essential infrastructure to support future industrial activity.
Summary: Brantford’s approval of vital infrastructure beneath Highway 403 paves the way for significant industrial development, positioning the city for future economic growth contingent on improved U.S. trade relations.
