Universal Pictures is developing a new "Mummy" movie starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, with Radio Silence attached to direct, sources told Deadline.
The studio is revisiting one of its most iconic action-adventure franchises, aiming to bring Fraser and Weisz back, likely reprising their roles from the popular "Mummy" films of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Universal Pictures representatives have declined to comment, and plot information remains confidential.
This new "Mummy" project reunites Radio Silence with Project X Entertainment, who previously collaborated on rebooting the "Scream" franchise. Although Radio Silence did not direct the upcoming "Scream 7," Project X was involved in its production.
Project X also worked with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett on the horror sequel "Ready or Not: Here I Come" for Searchlight Pictures.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz co-starred in two earlier "Mummy" films: the 1999 original and its 2001 sequel, both directed by Stephen Sommers. These films are based on one of Universal’s classic monsters and each grossed over $400 million worldwide.
"Universal Pictures is returning to one of its most beloved action-adventure franchises, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in discussions to return for a new Mummy movie," sources told Deadline.
Summary: Universal is reviving its beloved "Mummy" series with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, led by Radio Silence, bringing fresh creative energy to this classic franchise.
