Stephen Lang, returning as Colonel Miles Quaritch, shared new insights about the upcoming film Avatar: Fire and Ash. The sequel is described as darker and emotionally rich, focusing heavily on themes of grief, loss, and family bonds.
Lang called Fire and Ash a “stunning” film that raises the stakes beyond the previous entries. He highlighted how the story deeply explores the impact of tragedy following the events of Avatar: The Way of Water.
A key emotional driver in the film is the death of Neteyam, Jake and Neytiri's eldest son, which shapes the central theme of grief. Lang explained,
“So much of that has to do with the death of Neteyam, the eldest son of Jake and Neytiri, so grief becomes a major theme throughout this film.”
In an interview with Dexerto, Lang confirmed filming has wrapped, but acknowledged post-production is ongoing:
“I’ve wrapped shooting, but we never consider ourselves, you know, wrapped really. There’s always another door that we get ushered through.”
He praised the visual quality and scale of the movie, sharing,
“I was out there just less than a week ago… and the film looks absolutely stunning.”
Lang described The Way of Water and the original Avatar as “extraordinary films” and emphasized that Fire and Ash significantly increases the stakes both narratively and emotionally.
