Cienega High teachers threatened after Halloween costumes wrongly linked to Charlie Kirk

Cienega High Teachers Face Threats Over Halloween Costume Misinterpretation

A group of math teachers at Cienega High School encountered backlash after their Halloween costume photo went viral. The teachers wore shirts that read “Problem Solved” with fake bloodstains.

Turning Point USA initially claimed the shirts were making light of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. However, the Vail School District clarified that this was not the intended message and noted that the same shirts were worn by the teachers during last year’s Halloween as well.

"We shouldn’t have worn them, and we shouldn’t have posted it in retrospect, and I have deep sympathy and understanding for all people who are victims of violence, including Charlie Kirk and his family," said John Carruth, Vail School District Superintendent.

"The fact that this photo was taken so out of context and spread so quickly without doing some simple fact-checking has been really harmful to them," Carruth added.

No complaints about the costume were received from students or parents until the photo went viral online. Following the controversy, both the school district and the teachers involved have received threats from across the country.

Summary

The teachers’ Halloween costume was misunderstood and wrongly linked to a violent incident, causing unwarranted backlash and threats against them.
