Thailand has opened its doors to more than 100 contestants as the 74th Miss Universe pageant officially began in Bangkok. Among the participants is Cambodia’s representative, whose presence has drawn attention amid existing tensions between the two nations.
Carrying the theme “The Grand Universe: The Power of Love, The Power of Thailand,” this year’s event marks the fourth time Thailand has hosted the international competition. Scheduled activities will run through November 21 in Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, showcasing Thai tourism and cultural heritage.
The Cambodian contestant, Thai Neary Socheata, also known as Fiyata, arrived in Bangkok independently. Her participation came despite the Cambodian national license holder, ELEVENTO9 Company, announcing the country’s official withdrawal a day earlier due to “unresolved situations between Cambodia and Thailand.”
Fiyata’s personal decision to compete sparked online discussions across both nations. Upon her arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport, she was warmly welcomed by Cambodian supporters.
“I’ve arrived safely in Thailand. Thank you for the warm welcome, kindness, and support from everyone. Your love truly means so much to me.”
The Miss Universe 2025 opening in Bangkok highlights Thailand’s global appeal while the Cambodian contestant’s independent entry adds a note of cross-border intrigue and heartfelt resilience.
