In San Antonio, Spurs forward Julian Champagnie swapped his jersey for a Scooby-Doo costume this Halloween to surprise young patients at Methodist Children’s Hospital. His visit brought joy and excitement to kids spending the holiday in care.
Champagnie was joined by the Spurs’ mascot, the Coyote, as they handed out candy, took photos, and shared conversations with children and their families. The hospital's halls were transformed with creative decorations, and staff joined the fun by dressing up to match the festive theme.
Every year, Methodist Children’s Hospital hosts “reverse trick-or-treating,” where hospital leaders and staff go room to room delivering treats instead of receiving them. This year’s celebration became even more memorable thanks to Champagnie’s participation and the hospital’s therapy dogs—Lady, Fresca, and Chanel—who showed up in costumes as a surgeon, a witch, and a spider.
“I didn’t make a wish, but it felt like one. It was inspirational to see the actual walking dream. I didn’t think I was this special, but he made me feel like I was.”
“I appreciate the hospital for giving me this opportunity. For him to stop by and show some love meant so much to me. It’s hard to describe.”
These words came from patient Jamal Magee, whose heartfelt response captured the spirit of the day and the impact of Champagnie’s kindness.
Julian Champagnie’s Halloween visit turned a hospital stay into a celebration of warmth, courage, and community, uplifting patients and families alike.
