Director Joseph Kosinski is in early discussions with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler to headline a new big-screen reboot of “Miami Vice.” The filmmaker, known for “Top Gun: Maverick” and this summer’s “F1,” shared his admiration for both actors during the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards, where he presented to the “F1” sound team.
“Michael is someone I’ve admired for a long time and always wanted to work with. Austin, I think, is proving himself as someone to watch. If it ends up being those two, I’d be very lucky,” said Kosinski.
According to early reports, Jordan would portray Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, while Butler would take on the role of James “Sonny” Crockett. Kosinski confirmed that the film is set in 1985, promising a full embrace of the decade’s signature look and energy.
Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter spoke about the symbolic use of red, white, and blue in Ryan Coogler’s film “Sinners,” describing it as an exploration of American identity.
“It’s an American story,” Carter noted, explaining how the color palette reflects deeper cultural themes that become more evident after multiple viewings.
Joseph Kosinski’s “Miami Vice” reboot aims to capture the 1980s spirit with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, while Ruth E. Carter connects color and meaning in “Sinners.”
