Florida's 7-foot-9 Olivier Rioux Makes College Basketball Debut

The moment that Florida Gators fans had eagerly awaited finally arrived. Olivier Rioux, standing an impressive 7-foot-9, took to the court late Thursday night with about two minutes left in the game.

This marked the college debut of the tallest player in college basketball. Although the appearance was brief and occurred during a decisive 40-point victory over North Florida, it was an important first step.

Rioux did not record any statistics in his short time on the floor but served as the victory cigar in an important win for the Gators. Coming off a tough season opener loss to No. 13 Arizona, the home game against in-state rival North Florida Ospreys provided some relief.

The defending national champions dominated both halves, scoring 52 points each to secure a 104-64 win.

Rioux was on campus last season as a redshirt and national champion, best remembered for cutting down his section of the net from the ground.

Summary

Olivier Rioux's brief debut showcased the arrival of college basketball's tallest player, marking a promising start to his collegiate career with the Gators.
