Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith faced criticism online after sustaining a leg injury during Thursday’s game against the Denver Broncos. The incident occurred when Smith was tackled awkwardly by Nik Bonitto during one of the five sacks he endured in the first half. The play initially seemed routine but left Smith visibly limping as he headed to the blue medical tent.
After medical evaluation, Smith was seen jogging lightly on the sideline before deciding to return to the field. At that point, the Raiders were trailing by three points, and his determination drew mixed reactions from fans and players alike.
“Take Geno Smith out of the game, please,” one user wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Bonitto did not comment directly on the play but was seen simply watching from the sidelines as Smith tested his mobility. With Smith temporarily sidelined, Kenny Pickett stepped in as quarterback, remaining the only fully healthy QB available. The team also has Cam Miller on the practice squad and Aidan O’Connell still on injured reserve.
The Raiders had taken a calculated risk by signing Smith this offseason, expecting his experience to calm the offense. However, halfway through the season, that move hasn’t yielded consistent results. Smith currently leads the league with 12 interceptions, highlighting ongoing struggles under center as the team entered the matchup with a 2–6 record.
Despite battling injury and criticism after a rough hit, Geno Smith’s return to the field underscores the Raiders’ ongoing struggle to find stability at quarterback this season.
