Liberal leader Sussan Ley faces intense scrutiny as speculation mounts about the stability of her leadership. Reports suggest her position could be at risk within the next year after critical remarks emerged from within her own party.
Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson publicly expressed serious doubts about the current leadership, stating she “could not support things the way they are,” and warning that Ms. Ley was “losing support” internally.
At a press conference, Ms. Ley was directly asked if her “days leading the party were numbered,” while she attempted to shift attention to criticizing the Albanese government on cost of living issues. She declined to address the rumors, choosing not to “comment on commentary.”
“I value every single member of my team including the good Senator that you’ve just mentioned. In order to interrogate her view, you should probably ask her.”
Ms. Ley also emphasized the team’s commitment to resolving net zero policy challenges, even though these issues appear to deepen divides between moderates and conservatives in the party.
The leadership of Sussan Ley is under increasing pressure from within her party, with key figures questioning her support and direction amid internal divisions and policy disputes.
