Alan Carr’s Changing Ends returns for its third series later this month on ITVX, ITV1, and STV, offering more warmth, wit, and nostalgia from Northampton.
The BAFTA-nominated show has earned over 14 million streams on ITVX and won an RTS Award earlier this year, highlighting its nationwide appeal with a bittersweet mix of 80s awkwardness and heart.
Set in the summer of 1989, the story follows young Alan, portrayed by Oliver Savell, now a confident teenager grappling with the challenges of adolescence. He experiences intense emotions, identity struggles, and develops a new crush named Jake, adding emotional complexity.
Alan’s father, Graham (Shaun Dooley), faces his own challenges as manager of Northampton Town. The football team, known as the Cobblers, is slipping down to Division Three, creating pressure on Graham.
The series expertly weaves together both Alan's teenage experiences and Graham’s managerial pressures with Carr’s signature humor and warmth.
"The series gently balances both struggles — one on the pitch, one of the heart — with Carr’s trademark humour and affection."
The show continues to capture the bittersweet moments of growing up in the 1980s, blending humor and heartfelt storytelling.
Author’s Summary: Alan Carr’s comedy brilliantly blends 80s nostalgia with the emotional challenges of adolescence and family life, delivering heartfelt humor and relatable moments.
