Jasmine Crockett, Democrat from Texas, is seriously contemplating a Senate campaign, she shared during an interview last week.
“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” Crockett told Dasha Burns on Politico’s The Conversation.
Crockett emphasized her data-driven approach and expressed the belief that Texas must change its strategy for different election outcomes:
“So I’m a data-driven person. I will tell you that I personally believe that Texas needs to do something different if they wanted different results. That’s just the bottom line.”
Since 1988, no Democrat has won a Senate seat in Texas. The incumbent, John Cornyn, plans to run for a fifth term next year.
The congresswoman noted that her final decision will come late, mindful that winning the Democratic primary is just one hurdle, as the general election poses a greater challenge:
“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn.”
Crockett also stated that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is heavily investing in Cornyn’s primary campaign to ensure his victory, though this claim could not be independently verified and the NRSC declined to comment on their spending.
Author’s summary: Jasmine Crockett is carefully considering entering the 2026 Texas Senate race but remains skeptical about Democrats’ ability to unseat longtime incumbent John Cornyn.
