SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, originally from France and the former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been called and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The ordination took place on Thursday and was performed by President Dallin H. Oaks, together with other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum.
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is the Church’s second-highest governing body. Its members act as special witnesses of Jesus Christ and oversee the spiritual and administrative work of the worldwide Church.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”
Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Elder Caussé moved to Paris at the age of 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. They were married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and have five children.
Before his new calling, Elder Caussé served in the Presiding Bishopric since 2012 and as a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012. Throughout his ministry, he has emphasized compassion and the spiritual development of the Church’s youth.
Elder Gérald Caussé, a French Church leader known for his compassion and leadership, has been ordained as the newest Apostle, continuing his lifelong dedication to serving others and bearing witness of Christ.
