Elder Gérald Caussé Called as Newest Apostle

Elder Gérald Caussé, the first French member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, has served as the Church’s presiding bishop for the past decade. He was called to fill the vacancy left by the passing of President Russell M.

At 62 years old, Elder Caussé was ordained on Thursday, Nov., by Oaks and other members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was presiding bishop at the time of his call.

A native of Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé is the fourth current apostle born outside the United States. He and his wife, Sister Valérie Caussé, have raised three children across France, Germany, and the United States.

“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been in the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”

Recently, Elder Caussé spoke at the Utah YSA annual conference in Salt Lake City. Throughout his service, he has often addressed youth and young adults in different settings.

Summary: Elder Gérald Caussé, France’s first apostle, brings decades of leadership and a strong testimony of Jesus Christ to his new role in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
