Alexis Black, 32, a transgender woman from Los Angeles, drew national attention after an intense confrontation at Gold's Gym in Beverly Hills.
On Sunday, singer Tish Hyman shouted at gymgoers, criticizing Black for using the women's locker room. Hyman exclaimed:
Grown men with big d**ks [are] in the women's locker room.
She added loudly while being escorted out:
And I want to make sure the girls know.
Black, who was previously known as Grant Freeman, began her hormonal transition in February. She has been openly using the women's changing room at Gold's Gym, where she has also spoken with other women about her transition. She still has male genitalia and identifies as a transgender woman.
Black described the encounter with Hyman as disrespectful but noted this was not their first disagreement. She said:
She didn't want to do introductions.
Black, originally from Ohio and a divorcee, has been open about her transition while working out at the gym, which is now owned by EoS Fitness.
Alexis Black's situation reveals complex tensions surrounding transgender rights and public spaces, highlighting the challenges faced during her transition and public interactions.
