He was born on February 3, 1933, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Charles Stewart Jestings Sr. and Christie Gertrude Jestings, the family's most treasured place.

Walter graduated at the top of his class from the University of Rhode Island. He had a distinguished career in civil engineering and bridge design, serving as Chief of the Bridge Bureau.

His colleagues remembered him as fair, respectful, and someone with an unparalleled work ethic.

Personal Life

Walter was happily married to his hometown sweetheart, Sallye Ann Kendall, for 47 years until her passing in 1996. They lived in Newport, RI, Columbus, OH, and Atlanta, GA.
