David Harbour Reflects On the End of 'Stranger Things', Life Lessons and the Next Step

Before bidding farewell to the hit Netflix show, David Harbour walks the streets of New York with Esquire Spain. A version of this article was published in the November 2025 issue of Esquire Spain magazine.

Farewell to Stranger Things

On November 26, Netflix’s Stranger Things will launch its long-awaited three-part farewell. Thanksgiving Day will bring the first four episodes of season eight, followed by three more episodes on Christmas Day. The finale will air on New Year’s Eve, marking the conclusion of the streaming platform’s most successful original series.

This finale will close a decade-long journey for David Harbour, who gained international recognition for his role as Jim Hopper, the police chief of Hawkins, Indiana.

Increased Attention in 2025

With fans eagerly awaiting this ending, the latter half of 2025 was set to attract global media attention. However, Harbour’s visibility surged even more following the unexpected release of a pop album last week.

Interview with Esquire Spain

In September, before the album stirred the public, Esquire Spain’s Rafael Sánchez Casademont interviewed Harbour. They discussed his career, the bittersweet conclusion of Stranger Things, and his future plans. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

What Makes New York Special?

“When I was a kid it was this magical place. I grew up about an hour outside the city, in a suburban town in Westchester.”

Harbour expressed a deep fondness for New York, recalling childhood memories that shaped his appreciation for the city.
