Zarine Khan, the wife of actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan, passed away on Friday at the age of 81. The couple shared nearly 60 years together, experiencing many ups and downs during their marriage.
Zarine and Sanjay were parents to four children: Simone, Farah, Sussanne, and Zayed. Their love story began like a fairy tale but faced turbulence after Sanjay rose to fame in the 1960s.
As rumours spread about Sanjay Khan’s affair with Zeenat Aman, Zarine chose to stand by him. She even gave up her modelling career when Sanjay gave her an ultimatum, remaining loyal despite the circumstances.
“We gazed into each other’s eyes and in that moment, I knew hers were the eyes of someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”
In his memoir The Best Mistakes of My Life, Sanjay shared that he met Zarine when she was 13 and he was 18, in Juhu, Mumbai. He proposed soon after their first conversation, but Zarine said she would only agree if her feelings remained the same after a year.
He admired her maturity for her age, and she quickly became his confidante. Despite Sanjay still finding his path, they dated for six years before marrying.
Zarine Khan's enduring loyalty through personal struggles highlights a marriage marked by love, sacrifice, and resilience spanning six decades.
