Global Fund Chair Highlights Doha’s Growing Influence in Global Health

The Chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Roslyn Morauta, praised Qatar as a valued and consistent partner in the global fight against infectious diseases. She highlighted Qatar’s rising role in global health financing during an exclusive interview with The Peninsula at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.

Global Fund’s Unique Partnership Model

Morauta described the Global Fund as a “unique partnership” that brings together governments, private foundations, and civil society to accomplish significant health outcomes in developing countries.

“The Global Fund is not like any other multilateral organisation. It is built on a true public-private partnership model where both donors and implementers have equal say. Those who receive funding have as much voice as those who give it.” — Roslyn Morauta

Qatar’s Growing Role

Qatar joined the Global Fund as a donor in 2016 and has gradually increased its contributions. Although currently holding a non-voting seat on the donor side of the Board, Morauta hopes Doha’s deeper engagement will soon earn it a full voting position.
