Under a calm morning sky, the flags of the United Nations and the State of Qatar were raised together in Doha on Sunday, marking the beginning of the Second World Summit for Social Development.
The event officially signaled the United Nations' takeover of the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) as the venue where global leaders will convene to renew the global social pact. The ceremony, brief yet symbolically significant, took place at the expansive conference center.
Senior representatives from both Qatar and the United Nations were present, alongside a formation of UN security officers and Qatar’s Lekhwiya police, positioned on both sides of the flagpoles.
“This moment formally marks the handover of this landmark facility to the United Nations. The QNCC is now transformed into a space where the global community will gather to advance solutions and renew hope.”
“We welcome the international community and emphasize Qatar’s role as a supportive host and partner in fostering dialogue and cooperation at the highest level.”
Both the United Nations and Qatar underscore their dedication to collaborative progress and global partnership through this summit.
