Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face charges related to an attempted murder case following a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May, authorities confirmed.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that the 37-year-old Brown was brought from Dubai to Miami. A U.S. Marshals Service public affairs officer stated Brown arrived from Dubai earlier that day via Newark, New Jersey. He was booked into Essex County Jail in New Jersey the same day.
During his time as a fugitive, Miami Police noted Brown posted videos from Dubai. Officer Michael Vega commented on Brown’s behavior:
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh.”
Officer Vega added,
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
A warrant was issued in June charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm related to the shooting on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street. An off-duty officer providing security at the event reported leaving after hearing gunfire and later witnessing Brown in a physical altercation with another individual in the parking lot, according to the warrant.
Antonio Brown’s extradition marks a significant development in a high-profile attempted murder investigation following a shooting linked to a Miami celebrity boxing event.
