ITV Lorraine star addresses being drunk live on show after apologising to bosses

ITV Lorraine star recalls being drunk live on air

Dr Hilary Jones, a long-time contributor to ITV's Lorraine, has shared a humorous story from his earlier days on the show. The 72-year-old doctor, known for his medical expertise, reflected on an instance when he appeared on air after celebrating a marathon run a bit too enthusiastically.

“I’d run the New York Marathon and met up with two of my brothers to celebrate. Of course, I hadn’t eaten or drunk water, but there was plenty of beer,”

He explained that he was scheduled to do a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine Kelly, but the live broadcast began unexpectedly while he was still setting up.

“All I remember was giggling, laughing, and talking utter rubbish because I was actually a bit drunk,” he admitted. “Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me. What did I say?’”

Worried about the potential fallout, Dr Hilary called the show's producers the next day to apologise. Fortunately, their reaction was far kinder than he expected.

“I phoned them and said, ‘I’m really sorry,’ and they said, ‘Why? You sounded great! You just seemed happy, euphoric, and full of energy.’ So, I got away with it,” he recalled with a laugh.
