TV presenter and podcaster Vogue Williams has openly admitted on her show that she’s finding her six-year-old son Theodore’s maths homework surprisingly difficult. The conversation, shared on her popular podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me with co-host Joanne McNally, quickly struck a chord with parents everywhere.
As a mum to three — Theodore, six, Gigi, four, and Otto, three — Vogue described how evenings often turn into shared study sessions. She confessed that some subjects are far trickier than expected.
"I'm back at school though because of the kids," said Vogue. "So I'm relearning with them for their homework. I can do Gigi's homework alright. It's Theodore's I'm struggling with a bit. I'm not even joking."
Her honesty sparked a wave of responses from other parents who admit they’ve faced similar challenges. Many shared their own lighthearted but sincere experiences of trying to help their children with schoolwork that feels unexpectedly complicated.
"I realised, the hard way, that I had taught my four-year-old the wrong way to spell," said Kelly, a mum of one. "She brought home phonics and was teaching me!"
"I didn't have a clue," admitted mum-of-one Jayne. "My 12-year-old was struggling with his maths and I was neither use nor ornament."
Even basic arithmetic can quickly become confusing when modern methods and terminology come into play. What seemed simple decades ago now involves multiple approaches — something that leaves many parents scrambling to keep up.
Co-host Joanne empathized with Vogue’s confession, recalling humour from a meme that perfectly captured the shared sentiment among parents.
"We don't talk enough about the trauma of a parent sitting with their child trying to teach them maths," Joanne remarked.
Vogue Williams’ candid talk about relearning maths with her son resonated widely, highlighting how modern teaching methods often challenge even the most engaged parents.
