At 93, Former J&K Cooperative Chief Sentenced for Age Manipulation

A Srinagar court has sentenced Mohammad Shafi Banday, former Managing Director of the J&K Cooperative Central Land Development Limited, to six years in prison for fraudulently altering his date of birth to extend his official service tenure beyond legal limits.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) stated that Banday was convicted after a thorough trial for forgery, cheating, and falsification of records. The City Court of Srinagar found him guilty under Sections 420, 468, and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

The case originated from a complaint alleging that Banday had manipulated his birth records. He used a forged certificate to replace his actual birth date, 26 June 1932, with 1 September 1939, thereby extending his service tenure by over seven years.
