Microsoft has acknowledged a bug that incorrectly informs some users of Windows 10 that their system is “out of support,” causing confusion since support has not fully ended for everyone.
Windows 10 can still be extended for free until October 13, 2026. Users running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC are already covered and do not need to purchase Extended Security Updates (ESU).
Despite ongoing support, users see the message:
“Your version of Windows has reached the end of support.”
Microsoft explained,
“The message, ‘Your version of Windows has reached the end of support,’ might incorrectly display in the Windows Update Settings page.”
For example, a user with Windows 10 21H2 IoT Enterprise LTSC, supported until at least 2027, reported seeing the alert:
“Your version of Windows has reached the end of support. Your device is no longer receiving security updates.”
The alert persists until the user upgrades to Windows 11 version 25H2 or 24H2 LTSC.
A widespread bug in Windows 10 falsely signals support has ended, pressuring users to upgrade to Windows 11 despite their current system still being supported.
