Lhuan-dre Pretorius has made a remarkable start to his international cricket career. On November 4, during his ODI debut in Faisalabad against Pakistan, he scored a stroke-filled half-century. This achievement made him South Africa’s youngest-ever batter to reach an ODI fifty, breaking a 29-year-old record previously held by Jacques Kallis.
The 19-year-old left-hander had already announced his potential earlier in the year by scoring 153 runs from 160 balls against Zimbabwe in his Test debut in July. Following his Test success, Pretorius continued his strong form in the 50-over format, reaching his half-century in just 47 balls against a competitive Pakistani side.
Pretorius displayed aggressive and fluent strokeplay throughout his innings. He attacked fast bowler Naseem Shah from the very first over, hitting two boundaries off him. His attacking intent remained strong against spin as well, smashing off-spinner Salman Ali Agha for two fours and a six.
"In doing so, the left-hander became the youngest-ever ODI half-centurion for South Africa, breaking Jacques Kallis’ 29-year-old record."
Pretorius reached his half-century with a single off Abrar Ahmed’s bowling, marking a memorable milestone in his burgeoning career.
