Pakistan wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz was selected for the ICC Women’s World Cup Team of the Tournament announced on Tuesday. She is the only player included from a team that did not reach the final four.
Hosts India won the final against South Africa by 52 runs, securing their first-ever World Cup. India, South Africa, and Australia each had three players in the final XI, while England’s Sophie Ecclestone was also named, with Nat Sciver-Brunt as the 12th player.
Sidra led the tournament in dismissals and was a key part of Pakistan's bowling success despite their early exit in the league phase. Her sharp wicketkeeping included four stumpings, notably two in the match against Australia.
“Two of the stumpings came in their outing against Australia, with the dismissal of Kim Garth down the leg-side and up to quick bowler Diana Baig arguably the best dismissal at the tournament,” ICC said of Sidra’s skills behind the stumps.
South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt was named captain of the Team of the Tournament. She scored an astounding 571 runs at an average of 71.37, setting a new record for the most runs in a single Women’s World Cup edition. Wolvaardt currently tops the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings with 814 points, a career-high.
Sidra Nawaz’s selection highlights her exceptional wicketkeeping and the impact she made despite Pakistan’s early World Cup exit.
