Jay Som has unveiled the video for "Past Lives," a collaboration with Paramore’s Hayley Williams, just before her performance at Pitchfork Festival London on November 8th. The track, from her first album in over six years, Belong, has quickly become a fan favorite with its slow-burning indie vibe.
The new animated music video, directed by Daniel Topete, vividly captures the song’s themes of introspection and reflection through vibrant colors and dynamic imagery.
Released earlier this year via Lucky Number, Belong marks Jay Som’s strong comeback after a lengthy hiatus from solo work. Since her 2019 album Anak Ko, Melina Duterte has built an impressive indie music resume, working as producer and engineer for artists like boygenius, Lucy Dacus, Troye Sivan, and Beabadoobee. She also toured with Boygenius, contributing guitar and vocals live.
Melina Duterte said Belong is about “trying to find where I fit after stepping away for a while.”
With 11 tracks, the album explores this journey of self-discovery and belonging.
Author’s summary: Jay Som’s latest album Belong marks a thoughtful and well-received return, highlighted by the collaboration with Hayley Williams in the evocative "Past Lives" video.
