Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla revealed heartbreaking news on Friday about the death of their baby daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, who passed away on October 26.
The 29-year-old relief pitcher, who was on a leave of absence during the World Series, had been away from the team for personal reasons. The couple chose to share their grief publicly in a joint Instagram post.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always,” they wrote. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
They expressed deep gratitude toward the Dodgers organization for its compassion and understanding during this time, as well as to their extended baseball family and fans for their messages of love and support.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen all your messages, comments, and posts. It’s brought us so much comfort.”
The couple also extended their appreciation to the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their care and kindness.
“Lastly, we’d like to thank Cedars-Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible.”
The family has not released details regarding the cause of death. Earlier this year, in April, Alex and Kayla had announced they were expecting a baby.
Alex and Kayla Vesia shared the loss of their infant daughter Sterling, expressing gratitude for support from their team, fans, and medical staff during their time of grief.
