'Wicked: For Good' Reveals Two Major New Songs

Previews of the new songs for Glinda and Elphaba were showcased during the live event Wicked: One Wonderful Night. It has long been known that Wicked: For Good plans to expand the second act of the iconic musical into a full feature film, featuring two brand-new songs written by composer Stephen Schwartz.

After the NBC broadcast of the live show, audiences finally heard portions of these songs. Although brief snippets of both “The Girl in a Bubble,” performed by Ariana Grande as Glinda, and “No Place Like Home,” performed by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, appeared in earlier trailers for For Good, the live previews offered more insight, including hints about their roles in the film.

“The Girl in a Bubble”

This song is set during a night at Glinda’s opulent Emerald City residence. Glinda mournfully expresses regret over having achieved everything she wanted since childhood, now crowned as “Glinda the Good” under the influence of Madame Morrible and the Wizard’s plans following the first film.

“No Place Like Home”

Elphaba’s song is a reflective and sorrowful moment, where she contemplates her love for Oz—a land that now despises her as the “Wicked Witch of the West.”

“The preview of ‘Girl in the Bubble’ sets the song during a night at Glinda’s lavish headquarters in the Emerald City, as she mournfully rues getting everything she’s wanted in life since she was a child now that she’s ‘Glinda the Good’ at the behest of Madame Morrible and the Wizard’s design after the first movie.”
“’No Place Like Home’ sees Elphaba likewise contemplatively sorrowful, as she reflects on loving the land of Oz that has been made to despise her as the ‘Wicked Witch of the West.’”
