Former Nursing Assistant Indicted in Patient's Death

A former nursing assistant, Diamond Johnson, has been indicted for negligent homicide after a patient fell out of a hydraulic lift and died.

According to the Louisiana attorney general, the incident occurred at Jefferson Manor, a nursing home in Baton Rouge, where Johnson was working.

In June 2024, Johnson was using a hydraulic lift to move a female patient from a chair to a bed when the patient slipped out and landed on the feet of the lift.

The patient became unresponsive about 40 minutes after the fall and could not be resuscitated.

An autopsy revealed that the patient died from complications from blunt force injuries due to the fall, according to the attorney general's office.

The indictment was made by a grand jury following an investigation by the Louisiana Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
