Wendy's announced it will close approximately 300 stores across the United States in the upcoming months. This follows an earlier plan to shut down 150 locations toward the end of 2024.
Wendy's is among the top ten fast-food chains in New Jersey, home to 145 locations, including many in South Jersey. It remains unclear if any local stores will be affected in this new wave of closures.
"When we look at the system today, we have some restaurants that do not elevate the brand and are a drag from a franchisee financial performance perspective," said Interim CEO Ken Cook during a quarterly earnings call on November 7. "The goal is to address and fix those restaurants."
Cook confirmed that the closures will begin later this year but did not specify which exact locations will close.
