Lucy Liu has embraced a new look with a lob haircut, showcased in the trailer for her upcoming drama Rosemead. The Charlie's Angels alum now sports a short, side-parted style that falls just above her collarbone.
Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 5. The story follows Irene (played by Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate the challenges following Joe’s schizophrenia diagnosis.
The film is adapted from a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled "A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son."
This role marks a shift from Liu’s usual lighter, action-oriented characters, seen in projects like Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.
“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety about Rosemead. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”
At the Tribeca premiere, Liu further shared her interest in this project and others like it during an interview with Parade.
Lucy Liu’s new lob haircut accompanies her dramatic role in Rosemead, showcasing her venture into emotionally complex storytelling beyond her familiar action and comedic performances.
