Flemington’s Birdcage plays host to another round of CEOs and pollies

Flemington’s Birdcage Hosts CEOs and Politicians

Julie Bishop returned after a two-year absence, joining state politicians, gambling and pub executives, and TV personalities at Flemington Racecourse’s Birdcage.

The Birdcage is usually known for its focus on fashion and socializing rather than horse racing, but Tuesday was different due to Half Yours’ victory. David Canny, Australian Hotels Association Victoria president, is a part-owner of the gelding.

This meant many attendees in the Lion’s Kirin Ichiban marquee had backed Half Yours, including numerous guests at the AHA’s traditional pre-Cup lunch held on Monday.

“Flemington Racecourse’s Birdcage is famous for patrons’ focus on all things fashion and gossipy, rather than actual horses.”

Guests were united by their enthusiasm for the race and the social connections fostered at these events.
