NHL Notebook: Devils passing every test thrown their way

The New Jersey Devils continue to impress as they face challenge after challenge this season. Following an overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens, they secured a 2-1 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Sunday matinee at the Prudential Center.

With that result, the Devils remain the only undefeated team at home in the National Hockey League, holding a 7-0 record. The back-to-back wins came against two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference standings — Montreal ranked second, while both New Jersey and Pittsburgh were leading the Metropolitan Division entering the game.

Despite their strong start, the season is still young. Playoff spots won’t be set for another five months, and the Stanley Cup chase is still weeks away from fully ramping up. The early success, however, is giving the Devils plenty of opportunities to test their depth and consistency.

“We’ve had lots of them,” said Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe. “Those two games coming back from the road, those are real good teams, but I feel like every team we’ve played is really good. Even some of the ones that didn’t make the playoffs last year are now surging. Everyone’s good, every game is good.”

The team’s ability to rise to each challenge speaks to their growing confidence and resilience early in the season.
