Thatcher Demko will not play for the Vancouver Canucks in their upcoming game on Saturday night after missing practice on Friday. This news disappointed many Canucks fans.
Head coach Adam Foote addressed Demko's absence, emphasizing the need for the goalie to take care of himself amid a tight schedule. Foote said,
“We had a conversation with him to take care of himself, and know, in a condensed schedule, when he feels he needs a little bit of time off, that’s what he’s doing.”
Despite not dressing, Demko skated on Saturday morning. Kevin Lankinen will start as goalie against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Due to Demko's absence, the Canucks recalled Jiri Patera under emergency conditions on Friday. However, Patera was unavailable for practice as he had just played consecutive games with the Abbotsford Canucks against the Colorado Eagles. This situation left the Canucks with Lankinen and Abbotsford’s Alex Kotai as the goalies in practice.
Thatcher Demko's absence reflects the team's cautious approach to his health during a demanding schedule, despite his strong performance earlier this season.
