Should The Habs Bring Up A Replacement for Veleno?

The majority of the Montreal Canadiens' forwards have performed well in their roles since Patrik Laine suffered a long-term sports hernia injury after the 6th game of the season. However, no matter where Joe Veleno has been placed, he has lowered the effectiveness of his line.

Could it be time to bring up someone like Lucas Condotta (who has briefly played in the league) or Jared Davidson from the Laval Rocket? Are we sure we can’t just sneak this guy into the lineup if we have him wear Veleno’s gear? — Matt Drake (@DrakeMT), November 8, 2025

The Habs are approaching the point where they need to add a forward who can improve upon Veleno’s contributions. When on a line with Kirby Dach and Zack Bolduc, Veleno limited their offensive output.

Veleno’s skill level from the QMJHL hasn’t translated effectively to the professional level, forcing him to adapt into a more defensive role. While his abilities might suit a 4th line position, he appears to lack the necessary work ethic typically required for a defensive, hard-working player in that role.

Generally, 4th liners focus less on finesse and more on aggressive forechecking, which does not align with Veleno’s style of play.

Author’s summary: Joe Veleno’s current impact on the Canadiens is below expectations, and the team may need to promote a harder-working forward from Laval to strengthen their lineup.
