Dave Doeren shuts down any retirement speculation at NC State

During Dave Doeren’s thirteen-year tenure as head coach of NC State, the football program has remained remarkably consistent, achieving strong but steady results. Since taking over in 2013, the Wolfpack have typically won between seven and nine games each season, with only one exception from 2014 to 2023. Despite finishing several seasons ranked in the AP Top 25, the team has never surpassed nine victories.

Doeren’s squads have often come close to reaching the ACC Championship Game—just one win away—but have yet to make the short trip from Raleigh to Charlotte to compete for the title. This consistency has drawn comparisons to other programs that decided to make bold changes in search of greater success.

Despite speculation about whether NC State might seek a similar shake-up or whether Doeren might consider stepping away, the coach remains focused and content in his role.

"I'm having a blast," Doeren told ESPN's Inside ACCess podcast. "I have four years left on my contract, and I fully expect to keep coaching. Unless they kick me out of here, I’ll continue coming to work every day and doing everything I can to help NC State. There’s still meat on the bone for me, personally."

Author’s Summary
