Queensland’s cross-border commissioner Ian Leavers has passed away suddenly at his home, leaving behind a long-standing legacy of service to policing and the state. Police confirmed that Leavers was found at his residence around 9:50 a.m. The death is not being treated as suspicious, though inquiries continue.

“Leavers has been a strong voice for the challenges facing communities and businesses along the state’s borders during a critical stage of rebuilding following the impact of the COVID pandemic,” said Premier Crisafulli.
“Ian earned the respect of Queenslanders for saying it how it was, and always standing up for the police service he loved. He was dedicated, principled, and driven to make a difference for this state.”

The Premier added that Leavers’ leadership would be remembered during some of Queensland’s most significant and difficult times.
