There were significant delays for drivers following a multi-vehicle accident on the M25. National Highways reports that three out of four lanes are now open with delays reduced to approximately 20 minutes and about four miles of slow-moving traffic.
Inrix, a traffic monitoring site, reported severe delays and one lane closed on the M25 anticlockwise between J25 A10 Great Cambridge Road (Enfield) and J24 A111 Stagg Hill (Potters Bar). Congestion extends back to J26 (Waltham Abbey). Traffic on the opposite side is also slow due to onlookers. Alternative routes through Enfield and Edmonton, including the North Circular near the Great Cambridge Interchange, are heavily congested as drivers seek detours.
“#M25 is CLOSED anti-clockwise between J25 (#WalthamCross) and J23 (#PottersBar) due to a collision. Delays of 60 minutes, 4 miles of congestion. The injury is not as serious as initially feared. The M25 clockwise is NOW OPEN between J23 (#A1M) and J25.”
The agency indicated that delays exceeding an hour were expected, with roughly three miles of congestion remaining. They also confirmed that an air ambulance was called to the scene.
The M25 remains closed anticlockwise between J25 (#WalthamCross) and J24 (#PottersBar) due to the ongoing incident. The clockwise carriageway between J23 (#A1M) and J25 is also closed for the arrival of the air ambulance. Travelers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly this afternoon.
Summary: A multi-vehicle crash caused long delays and lane closures on the M25, with an air ambulance dispatched; traffic is now easing but significant disruptions remain.
