Toronto's earliest November snowfall in decades sets 2025 record

Toronto's Earliest November Snowfall in Decades Sets 2025 Record

Southern Ontario was covered in snow over the weekend, as an unusual early-season storm brought winter weather to Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in early November 2025.

By Monday morning, most of Toronto recorded more than five centimetres of snow, marking the earliest accumulation of this amount at Pearson International Airport since October 22, 1969, according to weather data.

“Environment Canada had issued a special weather statement ahead of the storm, warning of widespread snowfall across southern Ontario, from London to Ottawa.”

The storm dropped 2 to 10 cm of snow across the region, with downtown Toronto receiving lighter amounts than the northern GTA suburbs.

The last time Toronto experienced double-digit snowfall in November was on November 30, 1987, when over 12 cm fell across the city.

Typically, Toronto’s first notable snowfall occurs much later. Long-term climate records show the average date for 5 cm accumulation at Pearson Airport is December 12, and the median date for 10 cm total is in December as well.

“Historical records indicate that November snowfalls in Toronto are not unheard of, but heavy accumulations are rare.”
