Jeff Goldblum revealed that he became a vegetarian after being deeply impacted by the themes of animal cruelty portrayed in his new film Wicked: For Good. During an interview on the British talk show This Morning, ahead of the film’s European premiere on November 10, the actor shared how the project led him to reevaluate his lifestyle choices.
“It’s changed me,” Goldblum said, reflecting on the experience of playing the Wizard of Oz and the moral questions the role brought to light.
He elaborated on how rare it is for an actor to continue taking on such rich and meaningful roles later in their career, adding that collaboration with director Jon M. Chu made the experience even more rewarding.
“I’m lucky,” he explained. “It’s uncommon that you get to be doing this over a period of time and get more fertile, juicy, and interesting roles for yourself. And working with Jon Chu – amazing. You know, after doing this movie, we talked about the animal cruelty. I stopped eating meat and poultry.”
The storyline follows revelations from the first film, in which the Wizard is shown to suppress the voices of animals and exploit magical monkeys for his own purposes. These darker undertones continue to unfold in the sequel Wicked: For Good, prompting Goldblum to reflect on compassion and responsibility toward all living beings.
He concluded that he plans to enjoy vegetarian dishes during the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
“But I’m happy. We need the world to work for everybody on Earth, and every creature too,” he said.
Jeff Goldblum embraced vegetarianism after filming Wicked: For Good, saying the movie’s message about animal cruelty inspired him to live more compassionately.
