A new revival of David Auburn’s acclaimed play Proof, winner of both the Tony and Pulitzer Prizes, is now on sale. The production stars Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle alongside Samira Wiley and Jin Ha, and will be staged at the Booth Theatre beginning March 31, 2026.

Production Details

Directed by Tony Award-winner Thomas Kail, the show will officially open on April 16, 2026. The revival will include original music by Kris Bowers, set design by Teresa L. Williams, costumes by Dede Ayite, lighting by Amanda Zieve, sound by Justin Ellington and Connor Wang, and hair and wig design by Mia Neal. Casting is overseen by Daniel Swee, with Sara Gammage as production stage manager and Baseline Theatrical serving as general manager.

Story and Themes

The play centers on Catherine, portrayed by Edebiri, a gifted yet unsettled daughter of renowned mathematics professor Robert, played by Cheadle. After Robert’s death, a mysterious notebook containing a groundbreaking proof is discovered, throwing Catherine into emotional and intellectual turmoil.

Debate erupts over the authorship of the proof, forcing Catherine to face questions of legacy, genius, and the personal cost of proving her worth.

Legacy of "Proof"

Proof first premiered off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2000 before transferring to Broadway, where it earned six Tony Award nominations and won three, including Best Play, as well as the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
