Wednesday morning was special for Luke Landeskog, who learned his father, Gabe Landeskog, scored his first goal of the 2025-26 season while he was still in bed. This was also Gabe's first regular-season goal in 1,347 days.
After having two goals wiped out due to offside calls, Landeskog finally broke through in a 4-1 victory against the Anaheim Ducks at Ball Arena. “(Luke) keeps asking me, and it’s just been, ‘No, not yet,'” Gabe said. “This will feel good.”
Sam Malinski's unlucky stick break surprisingly worked in their favor, as his attempted shot redirected perfectly to Nichushkin, throwing the Ducks’ defense off balance.
“He’s had some tough luck,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. “He’s been chipping in, but finally gets one on the board that counts. I loved the ovation from the crowd. Big goal for us.”
This goal marked Landeskog’s first regular-season tally since March 5, 2022, a significant moment for the Avalanche captain and team.
Author’s summary: Gabe Landeskog ended a long goal drought with a crucial score, boosting the Avalanche’s momentum in their 2025-26 season opener.
