Netanyahu says Iran remains a threat but was diminished in war

Netanyahu Says Iran Still a Threat but Weakened After June War

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Iran continues to pose a serious threat to Israel, though it has been significantly weakened following the 12-day conflict in June.

“We crushed Iran’s axis of evil. We distanced and neutralized the dual threat from Iran — the nuclear and the ballistic threat alike,”

Netanyahu said before the Knesset, responding to growing criticism from opposition members. He emphasized that the threat remains real but no longer holds the same level of danger as before.

“This is a real threat, but not what it once was. We act with determination, initiative, and strategy,”

he added, describing Israel’s approach to maintaining national security and deterrence.

Overview of the June Conflict

In June, Israel launched a surprise military operation against Iran, targeting its key nuclear and military installations. Tehran retaliated with a barrage of drones and ballistic missiles. Following these exchanges, the United States joined the action by striking major Iranian nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan on June 22.

President Trump described the joint offensive as a success that led to the “obliteration” of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The conflict ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire on June 24, pausing hostilities after twelve days of intense clashes.

Ongoing Tensions

Despite the ceasefire, both Israeli and Iranian officials have in recent months signaled the possibility of renewed fighting. According to Israel’s Channel 13, a senior security official stated that Israel is preparing for a confrontation that could last longer than the previous one and promised a “much more aggressive” response if hostilities resume.

Author’s Summary

The 12-day war significantly weakened Iran’s capabilities, yet rising tensions suggest the fragile calm between Israel and Tehran may not endure much longer.
