Tennessee kicks off winter trout season across 40 sites with 70,000 fish

Winter Trout Stocking Begins Across Tennessee

Tennessee has kicked off its annual winter trout stocking program, giving anglers plenty of chances to fish close to home. More than 70,000 trout will be released into 40 local waters across the state this season.

First Stocking at Camp Jordan Lake

Camp Jordan Lake in East Ridge will be the first site to receive fish on December 2, marking the start of the winter program. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is orchestrating the effort to expand outdoor opportunities even in colder months.

A Continued Outdoor Tradition

TWRA maintains this program to encourage residents to stay active outdoors through the winter. The fish, mainly rainbow trout, are raised in state hatcheries and then distributed throughout accessible local spots for family-friendly fishing.

“Our goal is to make trout fishing easy and enjoyable for everyone, even during the colder season,” said a TWRA spokesperson.

Where to Find Stocking Locations

The full list of winter stocking sites and release dates is available on the TWRA website, helping anglers plan their outings ahead of time.

“Locations are chosen to give the greatest number of anglers access to quality fishing experiences,” the agency added.

Author’s summary: Tennessee’s winter trout program restocks over 70,000 rainbow trout in 40 sites statewide, making cold-season fishing accessible and fun for local anglers.
