Sad Sight of Dead Turtle on Mid Wales Beach
A huge dead turtle was found washed up on a Mid Wales beach between Aberdyfi and Tywyn on Saturday, October 11.
The decomposing marine animal is believed to be an endangered leatherback, the only species of sea turtle to regularly visit the UK.
Leatherback turtles are the largest of all sea turtles, growing up to a couple of metres long and weighing up to a tonne.
- They arrive in the Irish Sea from the tropics during summer and autumn to feast on jellyfish.
- An unusually high number of jellyfish have been spotted in UK waters this summer.
