Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky subsidiary unveiled an S-70U-Hawk unmanned aircraft system (UAS) prototype at the Association of the United States Army's annual symposium in Washington, DC.
The U-Hawk is based on a repurposed UH-60L Black Hawk and features 25% more cargo space than the original aircraft.
For the U-Hawk, the company "completely removed the cockpit, the pilot, and also the crew chief stations of the aircraft" and added clamshell doors that open to the side, allowing them to function while the rotor spins, according to Sikorsky Advanced Programs Business Development director Ramsey Bentley.
The unveiling took place on October 13, showcasing the innovative design and capabilities of the U-Hawk.
